Morocco’s National Rally of Independents (RNI), the party leading the governing coalition, unveiled its candidates for the Sept. 23 parliamentary elections on Friday, introducing a slate that includes more than 36% new faces and several current and former ministers.
Party president Mohamed Chouki said the selections reflected the RNI’s focus on youth and women’s participation, while balancing political renewal with experienced candidates. The list was approved by the party’s national elections committee.
Among the most prominent names are former House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami in Tetouan, former Agriculture Minister Mohamed Sadiki in Berkane, government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas in Sidi Ifni, and former minister Nadia Bouaida in Guelmim.
In the Tangier Tetouan Al Hoceima region, the party nominated Talbi Alami in Tetouan, Mohamed Simo in Larache and Abdelouahed Boulaich in Tangier Asilah. In the Oriental region, Mohamed Sadiki will run in Berkane, while candidate selections remain pending in Nador, Gercif and Oujda Angad.
The list includes several senior party figures across key electoral battlegrounds. In Rabat Salé Kénitra, RNI nominated Hatem Berqia in Kenitra and Rachid Hamri in Skhirat Temara. In Casablanca Settat, candidates include Hicham Ait Menna in Mohammedia, Mohamed Ghiat in Settat and Mohamed Chafik Benkirane in Ain Chock.
In Marrakech Safi, the party selected Karim Zidane in Youssoufia and Fayçal Derdari in Gueliz Nakhil, while in Souss Massa it nominated Zina Idhli in Agadir Ida Outanane and Abdellah Ghazi in Tiznit.
