A specialized Egyptian medical team successfully reattached four severed fingers on the left hand of a young man, following his admission to the Trauma and Emergency Hospital at Assiut University in the south of the country.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the surgery was performed by a specialized team at the Hand and Microvascular Surgery Unit, aiming to reattach the fingers and restore their blood circulation.
The patient is currently under close medical observation to assess the viability of the fingers and monitor his recovery progress.
Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Director of the University Trauma and Emergency Hospital in Assiut, stated that “the hospital received a university student who suffered a severe injury leading to the amputation of four fingers on his left hand at the mid-palm level, caused by a sharp machine.”
In an exclusive statement to Sky News Arabia, Abdel Hamid explained that “handling such cases begins simultaneously along two tracks: first, evaluating the patient’s general condition to ensure stability and rule out other injuries; and second, preparing for urgent surgical intervention to save the severed fingers.”
The hospital director added that “after confirming the patient’s condition was stable and conducting the necessary examinations and X-rays, the Microvascular Surgery Unit—affiliated with the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Assiut University’s Faculty of Medicine—was contacted to initiate preparations for the operation.”
