Yesterday, Tuesday, the Bani Bshir commune—under the Sidi Boutmim administration in the Al Hoceima province—hosted an awareness and educational health campaign for women and children. The event was organized by the Maternity Home Management Association in Targist as part of the “Community Health” project in the Targist district.
This initiative was held with the support of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), in partnership with the Health Services Directorate in Al Hoceima, under the supervision of the local authority, and in coordination with the Targist Local Hospital and the Level 1 Health Center in the Bani Bshir commune. It also included the participation of volunteer community mediators and received media coverage from Al Wakala TV and Akhbar TV.
The campaign program featured awareness sessions focusing on the importance of early detection of breast cancer and the necessity of adhering to the national child immunization schedule and completing specified doses. Additionally, it raised awareness about the importance of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for eligible young girls, as part of ongoing efforts to promote health and preventive behaviors among the population.
The activities were led by nurse Asmae Benaaqoub, Head of the Maternity Department at Targist Local Hospital, alongside nurse Khadija El Hani, from the Level 1 Health Center in Bani Bshir. They provided guidance and instructions on maternal and child health, highlighting the importance of breastfeeding and proper maternal nutrition, as well as encouraging women to utilize screening and preventive services.
The initiative recorded the participation of more than 70 women who benefited from breast cancer screening and awareness services. Participants also received health advice and guidance through organized workshops, which served as an opportunity to foster direct communication with local women and emphasize the importance of early detection, reproductive health, and child wellness.
This campaign reflects the vital role of field-based health initiatives in bringing medical services closer to rural populations, particularly regarding prevention, awareness, and early screening. It also highlights the effectiveness of coordination among health institutions, civil associations, local authorities, and volunteer mediators in encouraging community engagement with health programs and available services.
At the conclusion of the event, the Maternity Home Management Association in Targist expressed its appreciation to all partners, healthcare personnel, local authorities, volunteer mediators, Al Wakala TV, Akhbar TV, and everyone who contributed to the campaign’s success, reaffirming its continued commitment to health awareness and supporting maternal and child health across the Targist district.
