Smara – Hicham El Abassi
The Governor of Smara Province, Ibrahim Boutoumilat, on Tuesday, presided over the inauguration of the “Green March” local sports pitches and officially launched a series of sports and educational activities, as part of celebrations marking the first anniversary of “Unity Day.”

The ceremony was attended by a broad group of local and military officials, led by the Commander of the Military Garrison in Smara and the President of the Provincial Council, along with civil society representatives, sports figures, and numerous local youth and children.

The “Green March” Sports Village project—part of Smara’s urban rehabilitation program—aims to boost the region’s athletic infrastructure and provide an encouraging environment for young people to engage in physical activities and develop their skills.

According to official figures, the total cost of the project reached 8.45 million Moroccan dirhams, with a construction timeline of 12 months, realized through cooperation between the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), local stakeholders, and civil society organizations.

This new facility seeks to expand access to sports infrastructure while promoting sports as a driver for social inclusion and healthy living.

As part of the same festivities, the Governor and his accompanying delegation kicked off the “Unity School Sports Tournament”, held under the theme: “School Sports as a Catalyst for Citizenship Values and Healthy Life Education.”

The celebrations also featured the launch of the Unity Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, alongside cultural and entertainment activities—a move aimed at promoting the inclusion of people with special needs and encouraging accessible community activities during this national anniversary.
