US authorities detained American actress Selma Blair following an alleged altercation during a flight from Los Angeles to New York, which resulted in injuries to at least two flight crew members, authorities announced on Monday.
The star of “Legally Blonde” and “Cruel Intentions” was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport following the landing of a Delta Air Lines flight on Sunday evening, after reports of a passenger causing physical harm.
US media reported that Blair punched a flight crew member and bit another.
Reports also stated that she subsequently assaulted a police officer and a nurse while being transported to the hospital.
A representative for Blair said: “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged behavior.” They added: “Upon landing, she received immediate medical care and is currently in stable condition.”
A federal judicial source stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a summons against Blair containing charges of assault aboard an aircraft.
Blair appeared in court on Monday evening on two counts of second-degree assault and was released on bail. A new hearing for the case is scheduled for January 19, 2027.
A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines stated that the company “has zero tolerance for unruly or illegal behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew members always remains a top priority.”
In 2016, Blair was carried off a plane on a stretcher following another bout of erratic behavior during a flight.
Blair said in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine following that incident: “I mixed alcohol with medication, which caused me to black out and drove me to say and do things I deeply regret.”
The American actress Selma Blair also revealed in her 2022 memoir that she had bitten a number of celebrities, including Kate Moss, noting that this often occurred in situations where she had consumed alcohol.
