Echoes of Diplomatic Momentum in the Eyes of Sahara Representatives: Smara as a Model of Commitment to National Fundamentals

These major diplomatic achievements were not confined to international forums alone; they resonated powerfully on the ground across the Kingdom’s southern provinces. There, civil society actors and elected representatives stood firm against all maneuvers by adversaries. In this context, the position of the Mayor of the Smara Municipality (President of the Smara Communal Council) stood out, reflecting the authentic pulse of the Moroccan Sahara and the local population’s unwavering unity around their national fundamentals.

The Mayor of Smara emphasized that the growing international consensus within the United Nations General Assembly’s Fourth Committee—supporting the Autonomy Proposal under Moroccan sovereignty—is the culmination of the developmental, human rights, and political progress witnessed throughout the southern provinces.

He noted on several occasions that Smara, as the spiritual and scientific capital of the region, enjoys security and stability while undergoing major development projects that truly reflect the credibility of the wise Royal Vision.

Furthermore, local elected officials in Smara stressed that the local population, through its democratically elected councils, is the sole legitimate and most representative voice in managing its daily affairs. They affirmed that the narratives of the “Polisario” front and its sponsors have become entirely obsolete in the face of the sustainable development and regional equity led by Morocco in its Sahara, thereby merging official diplomacy with the parallel diplomacy of elected representatives to consolidate the Moroccanness of the Sahara both on the ground and internationally.
