The Wali of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, Mr. Mohamed Benribag, chaired on Wednesday evening, October 7, at the Wilaya headquarters, a meeting of the Provincial Literacy Committee dedicated to evaluating achievements from the 2025–2026 season and outlining measures for the 2026–2027 season to tackle illiteracy in Béni Mellal Province.
During the meeting, attended by all committee members, social data and indicators related to illiteracy rates in Béni Mellal Province were presented. Participants examined the constraints and obstacles impeding the realization of target objectives—specifically, expanding coverage to reach more beneficiaries among the most vulnerable groups across the province.
On this occasion, the Wali highlighted the High Royal Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the necessity of advancing education and training to drive comprehensive development and giving literacy its due priority as a key lever for societal progress. Noting that the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region remains heavily impacted by illiteracy, he stressed the need for an integrated territorial approach that respects local specificities to effectively identify all target individuals and guarantee their participation in literacy programs.
In the same context, Mr. Mohamed Benribag emphasized full commitment, widespread mobilization, and unified action among all actors—including local authorities, elected councils, decentralized services, and civil society organizations. He called for working within a framework of cooperation, harmony, coordination, and synergy to achieve integrated development and mitigate the impact of illiteracy in the province.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to initiate local-level meetings involving local authorities, the Regional Literacy Agency, and heads of territorial councils. These sessions aim to ensure good governance and a proximity-based approach to implementing literacy initiatives locally through precise target identification, structured support for civil society partners, and overcoming all operational hurdles to achieve optimal program delivery across the province.
